360 Review Cycles

Create and manage 360 review cycles — configure assessment types, add participants, launch cycles, manage peer nominations, and track progress.

360 Review Cycles let you run structured, multi-perspective performance reviews across your organization. A cycle can include self-assessments, supervisor assessments, peer reviews, and upward assessments (team member evaluates their manager).

Permission Required

You need the admin:review_cycles permission to manage review cycles. This is included in the default admin role.

Cycle Lifecycle

Every review cycle follows this flow:

StatusDescription
DraftCycle is being configured. You can edit settings, add/remove participants, and set due dates.
ActiveCycle has been launched. Assignments are generated and participants can complete their reviews.
CompletedCycle has been closed by an admin. All assignments are finalized.
CancelledCycle was cancelled before completion. No further assignments can be submitted.

Creating a Review Cycle

  1. Go to AdminReview Cycles.
  2. Click New Cycle.
  3. Fill in the cycle details:
    • Name — A descriptive name (e.g. "Q1 2026 360 Review").
    • Description — Optional context for participants.
    • Start / End dates — The overall cycle window.
  4. Assessment types — Toggle which types to include:
    • Self-assessment — Each participant evaluates themselves.
    • Supervisor assessment — The participant's manager evaluates them.
    • Peer review — Colleagues evaluate each other (see Peer Nominations below).
    • Upward assessment — Participant evaluates their manager.
  5. Due dates — Optionally set separate due dates for each assessment type.
  6. Peer nomination settings (if peer review is enabled):
    • Enable peer nominations — Let participants nominate their own peer reviewers.
    • Nomination deadline — When nominations must be submitted.
    • Min / Max peer reviewers — Boundaries for how many peers review each participant.
  7. Click Create. The cycle is saved in Draft status.

Adding Participants

Before launching, you need to add participants to the cycle:

  1. Open the cycle detail page.
  2. Go to the Participants tab.
  3. Click Add Participants and search for people by name.
  4. Select one or more people and confirm.

You can also remove participants while the cycle is in Draft status.

Launching a Cycle

When the cycle is configured and participants are added:

  1. Click Launch Cycle on the cycle detail page.
  2. Confirm the action.

What happens on launch:

  • Self-assessment assignments are created for each participant (if enabled).
  • Supervisor assessment assignments are created — each participant's manager (from the org hierarchy) is assigned to review them (if enabled).
  • Upward assessment assignments are created — each participant is assigned to review their manager (if enabled).
  • Peer review assignments are NOT generated yet — they come from peer nominations (see below).
  • The cycle status changes to Active.

Note: If a participant has no manager in the hierarchy, supervisor and upward assignments are skipped for that participant.

Peer Nominations

When peer review is enabled and peer nominations are turned on:

  1. Participants nominate peers — Each participant sees the cycle on their Performance page and can nominate colleagues they want feedback from.
  2. Admin reviews nominations — In the cycle's Nominations tab, you see all pending nominations.
  3. Approve or reject — Approved nominations generate a peer review assignment (the nominee reviews the nominator). Rejected nominations are recorded but no assignment is created.

You can also see nominations submitted by managers for their reports.

Tracking Progress

The cycle detail page shows:

  • Overall progress — A progress bar showing completed vs. total assignments.
  • Assignments tab — Lists all individual assignments with their status (pending, in progress, completed, skipped), reviewer, reviewee, and type.
  • Participants tab — Shows each participant and their assignment completion.

Closing or Cancelling a Cycle

  • Close — Finalizes the cycle. Status moves to Completed. Use this when the review period is over.
  • Cancel — Stops the cycle. Status moves to Cancelled. Use this if the cycle was created by mistake or is no longer needed.

Both actions are available from the cycle detail page and require confirmation.

Deleting a Cycle

You can delete a cycle only when it is in Draft status. Active, completed, or cancelled cycles cannot be deleted — use Cancel instead if needed.

How It Works for Other Roles

  • Members see their pending assignments (self, peer, upward) on their Performance page. They can nominate peers if enabled.
  • Managers can see the progress of their reports within active cycles and approve/reject peer nominations for their reports.
  • 1:1 Facilitators can see read-only progress for people they facilitate 1:1s with.

Tips

  • Start with a Draft cycle and verify participants before launching.
  • Set separate due dates for each assessment type so participants complete them in order (e.g. self first, then peer, then supervisor).
  • Use peer nomination limits (min/max) to ensure balanced feedback without overloading reviewers.
  • Check the Assignments tab regularly during an active cycle to monitor completion rates and send reminders if needed.
