Performance Assessments
Request self-assessments from reports, submit supervisor assessments, use performance dimensions and rating scales, and track assessment status.
As a manager you request self-assessments from your reports, submit supervisor assessments for them, and track status (draft, submitted, completed). Assessments use performance dimensions and rating scales defined by your organization.
Overview
Performance assessments in SkillHouse typically include:
- Self-assessment — The team member rates themselves on defined dimensions.
- Supervisor assessment — You rate the team member and add comments.
You can request self-assessments from your reports and then complete your own assessment. Both use the same dimensions and rating scale (e.g. 1–5 or “Does not meet / Meets / Exceeds”).
Requesting Self-Assessments from Reports
You trigger the process by requesting a self-assessment for one or more reports.
How to request a self-assessment
- Go to Manager → Assessments (or Performance Assessments).
- Find the Request self-assessment action (or list of reports).
- Select the report(s) for whom you want a self-assessment (e.g. for the current cycle).
- Send the request. The report receives a task (e.g. in their Dashboard or Performance area) to complete their self-assessment.
- Track status: Pending, Draft, Submitted.
You can send reminders from the same area if someone hasn’t submitted by the deadline.
Tip: Request self-assessments early in the cycle so reports have time to reflect and you have their input before writing your supervisor assessment.
Submitting Supervisor Assessments
After (or in parallel with) self-assessments, you complete the supervisor assessment for each report.
How to submit a supervisor assessment
- Open Manager → Assessments and find the report (or open the report from Team).
- Open Supervisor assessment (or Assess for this cycle).
- For each dimension (e.g. Technical execution, Collaboration, Growth):
- Choose a rating from your org’s scale.
- Add comments if needed (evidence, examples, development focus).
- Add an overall summary or narrative if the form includes it.
- Submit when ready. Status moves to Submitted or Completed depending on your tenant’s workflow.
You can usually save a draft and return later. After submit, editing may be restricted.
Performance Dimensions
Dimensions are the criteria your organization uses to evaluate performance. Examples:
| Dimension type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Delivery | Technical execution, Quality of work, Meeting commitments |
| Collaboration | Communication, Teamwork, Cross-team impact |
| Growth | Learning, Applying feedback, Development |
| Leadership | Ownership, Mentoring, Influence (for senior roles) |
You’ll see the exact dimensions and descriptions in the assessment form. Use them consistently so ratings are fair and comparable.
Rating Scales
Your org defines the rating scale. Common patterns:
| Scale type | Example |
|---|---|
| Numeric | 1 – 5 (e.g. 3 = Meets expectations) |
| Labels | Does not meet / Partially meets / Meets / Exceeds / Outstanding |
| Frequency | Rarely / Sometimes / Usually / Always |
Apply the scale as defined; “Meets expectations” is typically the baseline for solid performance.
Tracking Assessment Status
You can track where each report stands in the cycle:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not requested | You haven’t sent a self-assessment request yet |
| Pending | Request sent; report hasn’t submitted |
| Draft | Report (or you) has started but not submitted |
| Submitted | Self-assessment or supervisor assessment submitted |
| Completed | Cycle or assessment fully complete for that person |
Use the Manager Dashboard and Assessments list to see who is pending and who is done, and to send reminders or complete your own assessments.
Tip: Complete supervisor assessments soon after reports submit their self-assessment so you have their perspective in mind and can reference it in your comments.
360 Review Cycles
When an admin creates a 360 review cycle, you may see it reflected in your Manager area. Cycles coordinate multiple assessment types (self, supervisor, peer, upward) across participants.
What you see as a manager
- Active cycles for your reports — If any of your reports are participants in an active cycle, you'll see the cycle and their assignment progress.
- Supervisor assignments — When a cycle is launched, supervisor assessment assignments are automatically created for you to review each of your participating reports.
- Peer nomination approvals — If peer nominations are enabled, you may be asked to approve or reject peer nominations submitted by or for your reports.
Completing cycle-linked supervisor assessments
Cycle-linked supervisor assessments work the same as regular supervisor assessments. The only difference is they're linked to the cycle for tracking purposes. Complete them using the same dimensions and rating scale.
Approving peer nominations
When a report nominates a peer (or is nominated by one):
- You'll see the nomination in the cycle's peer nominations area.
- Approve to create a peer review assignment, or Reject if the nomination isn't appropriate.
- Approved nominations generate assignments that the nominee must complete.
Tip: Review peer nominations promptly so participants have enough time to complete their peer reviews before the deadline.
