Profile Setup
How to edit your SkillHouse profile — name, title, bio, avatar, GitHub and LinkedIn, timezone, location, email, and pronouns.
Your profile is how you appear to colleagues in SkillHouse: in People Finder, on projects, in 1:1s, and in the directory. This guide explains how to edit your profile and set preferences so the platform works well for you.
Where to Edit Your Profile
- From My View, open Profile (or Profile settings) from the sidebar, or use the account/avatar menu in the header and choose “Profile” or “Settings”.
- You may also land on a profile page from a “Complete your profile” prompt on first login.
The profile form is usually grouped into sections: Basic info, Links (GitHub, LinkedIn), Preferences (timezone, locale), and sometimes Privacy.
Basic Information
These fields define who you are in the tenant.
| Field | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Name | Your full name or display name. Shown in search, directory, and org chart. |
| Title | Job title or role (e.g. “Software Engineer”, “Product Manager”). Helps others understand your role. |
| Bio | Short summary about you, your focus areas, or how you like to work. Optional but useful for People Finder and introductions. |
| Avatar | Profile picture. Improves recognition in lists, 1:1s, and feedback. |
Steps to update basic info
- Open Profile (or Profile settings).
- Edit Name and Title as needed.
- Add or change your Bio in the text area.
- For Avatar: use the upload or “Change photo” control; follow the instructions for supported formats and size.
- Save (e.g. Save or Update profile). Changes are reflected across the app.
Tip: A clear, up-to-date title and a short bio make it easier for colleagues to find you in People Finder and understand how you can help.
Connect GitHub and LinkedIn
Linking external accounts helps SkillHouse (and optionally AI) understand your skills and professional presence.
- GitHub — Connects your GitHub profile. Can be used for evidence, skills inference, or portfolio links (depending on tenant configuration).
- LinkedIn — Connects your LinkedIn profile. Often used for professional identity and optional skills/experience signals.
How to connect
- In your profile, find the Links or Connected accounts section.
- Click Connect (or similar) next to GitHub or LinkedIn.
- Complete the OAuth flow in the popup or redirect (authorize SkillHouse to access the requested data).
- After authorization, the account appears as “Connected” and you may see a Disconnect option.
Disconnecting removes the link and any data pulled from that account; your profile and skills are not deleted, but evidence or inferences that relied on that connection may be affected depending on tenant rules.
Timezone and Location
Setting timezone (and optionally location) helps with:
- Scheduling 1:1s and meetings.
- Showing times in your local zone in the app.
- Filters or analytics that use location (if your tenant uses them).
Steps
- In profile or Preferences, find Timezone.
- Select your timezone from the dropdown (e.g. “Europe/Madrid”, “America/New_York”).
- If Location (city, country, or region) is available, fill it in as needed.
- Save. The app will use this for date/time display and scheduling where applicable.
Tip: Use a city or region that matches your actual work location so meeting times and reminders are correct.
Personal Email and Pronouns
- Personal email — If the profile has a “Personal email” or “Contact email” field (separate from the login email), you can set it for contact or recovery. What is shown to others depends on tenant privacy settings.
- Pronouns — If your tenant supports pronouns (e.g. “she/her”, “he/him”, “they/them”), you can select or type them in the profile. They are typically shown next to your name in the directory, 1:1s, and feedback to foster inclusive communication.
Edit these in the same profile form, usually under “Contact” or “Identity”, and save.
After You Save
- Your name, title, avatar, and pronouns (if set) appear in the directory, org chart, People Finder, and when you give or receive feedback.
- GitHub/LinkedIn links may be used for evidence and skills (depending on configuration).
- Timezone and location are used for scheduling and display.
- Revisit your profile whenever your role, focus, or preferences change so the platform stays accurate and useful for you and your team.
