OKRs
Create objectives (career_growth, skill_development, project, learning), add key results, check in on progress, and manager comments.
OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) help you set and track goals. You define objectives — what you want to achieve — and key results — measurable outcomes. Regular check-ins and optional manager comments keep you aligned and accountable.
Objective Types
SkillHouse supports different objective types so you can align OKRs with the kind of work you do:
| Type | Use for |
|---|---|
| Career growth | Role progression, leadership, visibility (e.g. “Grow into a tech lead”) |
| Skill development | Learning a skill or reaching a level (e.g. “Reach level 4 in React”) |
| Project | Delivering a specific project or outcome (e.g. “Ship the new API by March”) |
| Learning | Completing a roadmap or training (e.g. “Complete the Data fundamentals roadmap”) |
Choose the type that best fits your goal; you can mix types across objectives in the same period.
Creating an Objective
- Go to OKRs (from the main nav or Dashboard).
- Select the time period (e.g. current quarter) if your org uses quarters.
- Click Add objective or Create objective.
- Title — Short, clear statement of what you want to achieve (e.g. “Become confident in system design”).
- Type — Choose career_growth, skill_development, project, or learning.
- Optionally add a description for context.
- Save. The objective appears in your OKR list.
Adding Key Results
Key results are measurable outcomes that show progress toward the objective.
- Open the objective.
- Click Add key result.
- Write a key result that is:
- Measurable — e.g. “Complete 3 system design trainings” or “Deliver API v1 by March 15.”
- Verifiable — Someone can tell when it’s done.
- Optionally set a target or progress (e.g. 0–100% or numeric).
- Save. Add 1–3 key results per objective for clarity.
Tip: Key results should be achievable in the period. If one is too big, split it into smaller key results or move it to a later OKR.
Checking In on Progress
Regular check-ins keep your OKRs current and visible to your manager.
- Open OKRs and select the objective or key result.
- Click Check in or Update progress.
- Progress — Update percentage or status (e.g. “On track,” “Blocked,” “Done”).
- Notes — Briefly say what you did, what’s next, or any blockers.
- Save. The check-in is recorded with a date and may notify your manager.
Aim for at least one check-in per objective every 2–4 weeks during the period.
Manager Comments
Your manager (or 1:1 facilitator, if configured) can add comments on your objectives or key results. You might see:
- Feedback — “Good progress; consider adding a key result for the docs.”
- Questions — “Can you move the deadline up?”
- Recognition — “Nice work closing this out.”
Check the OKR detail or activity feed for comments and respond or adjust as needed.
Viewing and Editing
- List view — All your objectives for the period with progress summary.
- Detail view — One objective with its key results, check-ins, and comments.
- Edit — You can edit title, type, description, and key results until the period is locked (if your org locks past periods).
Tip: Align at least one objective with your 1:1 or performance goals so OKRs and feedback tell one story.
